This position provides advice and counsel in all areas surrounding the employment of physicians. This position is also responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance to the Company’s executives, professionals and other employees relating to the Company’s business activities. This is a hybrid position based out of our Nashville, TN office, but will also consider qualified candidates in Dallas, TX, and Houston, TX.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides in-house legal counsel on employment matters, which may include employee relations issues, wage and hour laws, workers’ compensation, physician employment agreements and policy related issues.
• Advises on regulatory issues surrounding employment of physicians and the operational complexities resulting from those requirements.
• Manages physician employment agreements across the enterprise including drafting, negotiating, and updating as required by new state legislation.
• Oversees litigation through all phases, including handling early resolution negotiations, coordinating discovery and providing strategic direction to and close supervision of outside counsel.
• Assists businesses in developing and implementing processes, procedures, and systems to promote risk avoidance and prevent litigation.
• Manages all aspects of e-litigation/matter management system, contract automation tool, compiling records and responsive information to subpoenas and other discovery, managing and developing processes for our records database and ensuring compliance with reporting and litigation hold obligations.
• Identifies and analyzes legal issues with an understanding of how to appropriately balance risk and the Company’s ability to pursue its business interests.
• Develops and conducts training on various legal topics relevant to risk management.
• Responds promptly to the business while delivering efficient and high-quality legal service.
• Works on a wide range of projects and with those at various levels within the organization.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (KSAs):


• Juris Doctorate (JD) from ABA accredited university, membership in good standing of State Bar.
• 4+ years legal experience with an emphasis in healthcare-based employment law and litigation.
• Excellent organization, prioritization and multitasking skills, practical and effective problem-solving skills, strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment, commercially focused legal advice and appropriately consider risks to the Company.
• Exceptional attention to detail is critical for this role.
• Candidate must be able to interact effectively and collaboratively with the Company’s executives, professionals and other employees, as well as with in-legal colleagues and outside counsel.
• Work well independently and within a team environment, both in person and virtually.
• Well-developed level of business experience supporting clients or advising on specialty law matters.
• Experience with healthcare laws and regulations, preferred.
