    The Director of Coding provides overall coding compliance and coding operational leadership for the Coding Team. Responsible for the daily operations of all coding, abstracting functions and data request functions for central (Texas/Oklahoma) facilities. Interprets coding regulations, policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate and provides relevant feedback to Operations. The Director of Coding is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate and compliant Professional Fee Anesthesia coding through appropriate direction, training and supervision of the Central Division (Texas and Oklahoma) Coding Managers and/or staff. This position provides daily, weekly and monthly reports to leadership and key stakeholders as requested.




    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):


    • Oversees the execution of training and on-going performance monitoring for the coding department as well as annual reviews. (Reviews are to be completed within the month they are due. Training must be department wide, scheduled and documented.)
    • Develop and monitor compliance with policies and procedures for coding department. Procedures are to be updated at least annually but must be updated whenever a significant change to a process occurs.
    • Monitor productivity of coding department to provide updates/reports as requested. Communicate the department standards and performance expectations. Reports are to be maintained with daily, weekly, monthly and YTD data. This data is to be at least 40% of the employee review process.
    • Monitor turnaround time for coding process (from receipt through charge posting) and reported per policy.
    • Oversee denial and edit reviews and processing.
    • Provide orientation to new providers and on-going coding support to all providers.
    • Monitor and review coding work queues and ensure appropriate quality standards (including CPT, ICD-9, ASA, HCPCS codes) are met.
    • Share communication for all coding compliance and education updates, as well as payer regulations and guidelines that affect provider practices and coding staff procedures.
    • Maintain knowledge and understanding of GE Centricity (Groupcast) workflows.
    • Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to personnel management.
    • Ability to manager offshore employees and effectively communicate with contract vendors.
    • Assists and guides the management team in mentoring employees, conducting performance evaluations, counseling and providing disciplinary actions to assigned personnel, and works to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

    • In-depth knowledge of Anesthesia Coding including CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS and ASA coding
    • In-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation guidelines and billing standards
    • In-depth knowledge of Anesthesia and Acute pain billing guidelines
    • Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians, and external customers. 
    •  Excellent Verbal and Written skills 
    • Ability to prioritize work and work independently with little to no supervision
    • Must have strong keyboard skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Must have a pleasant disposition and high tolerance level for diverse views and opinions
    • Ability to motivate diverse personalities within the department
    • Membership and active participation in professional organizations
    • Communicate well with the public
    • This role is located in Dallas office
    • ***Travel required throughout North, Central, South Texas and Oklahoma - (25%)***



    • Bachelor’s degree in a business or health related field is required. Graduate degree preferred.
    • A current Professional Coding Certification (i.e. CPC, CCSP) required.    
    • Prefer a minimum of 5 years Professional fee anesthesia experience or other related business office experience. 
    • 5-10 years of managerial experience in a coding production environment required.
