    The medical assistant assists in the delivery of primary health services and patient care management in a clinical and outpatient surgical setting for physicians and mid-level practitioners (Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, CRNAs) as needed.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):


    1. Performs selected nursing and administrative duties as designated by physician or other practitioner.
    2. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patients’ histories and subjective current status and vital signs and documents information in chart.
    3. Initiates medical record notation for patient visits, both in paper and electronic chart. Completes documentation as directed by provider.
    4. Answers telephone, takes off voice mail messages, take detailed notes on calls to relay information to providers and then respond to calls per direction of providers or refer callers to the appropriate individual when needed.
    5. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, supplies and medications both prior to and after office visits and procedures.
    6. Assists provider in preparing for minor in-office surgeries and procedures. Applies dressings and preps patients before and after various office procedures including intrathecal pump refills.
    7. Participates in educating, teaching and counseling patients to follow provider directions and promote optimal well being and health.
    8. Assists with scheduling of tests and treatments and travels with the physician to various ambulatory surgical centers to help with dictation, scheduling and any other duties the physician might require while at the surgical center.
    9. Assists in reprogramming of intrathecal pumps and spinal cord stimulators as needed under direction of physician.
    10. Orders and maintains proper inventory of clinical supplies and equipment.
    11. Maintains patient files, records and other information with strict confidentiality.
    12. Answers phones and assists with front desk duties on an as needed basis.
    13. Travels to multiple locations on an as needed basis.
    14. Performs other duties as assigned.

    • High School graduate or equivalent.      
    • Graduate from accredited program for Medical Assistants.
    • Professional Certification CMA (AAMA) or Registration as RMA (AMT) is required.
    • Previous medical office experience is preferred.
